Landscapes of Marc Rieu: Dream and Reality

Landscapes of Marc Rieu: Dream and Reality
February 28, 2012: The in 1978 born in Maastricht Marc Rieu, refers to his painting style as"suggestive illusionism" which means he suggests a reality which he then enchants with the brush. For him, art flows out of a feeling and does not come from his head.

Why does he paint landscapes? Although we view the many disasters which frequently happen anywhere, it still shows how beautiful the world really is. He describes himself as a romantic.

Marc Rieu studied art history in Nijmegen and wrote his thesis on Caspar David Friedrich, a
andscape painter from the 19th Century, who strongly influenced him: dark mysterious landscapes with fog banks and disturbing mountains on the horizon. Other influences in the
arts for him are, Frederic Edwin Church, Albert Bierstadt and René Magritte.

In addition to painting, there is also a second passion for Marc Rieu: classical music and film music. His love for music is no accident: His father is the internationally acclaimed violinist and conductor André Rieu.
This exhibition, "Landscapes by Marc Rieu: Dream and Reality" will be opened this Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 2:30 PM in the BFR radio House in Eupen (Belgium) The organizer is Karl-Heinz Lambertz, Prime Minister of the German-speaking community. A musical accompaniment will be performed by Serge Bosch (tenor) and Fabienne Crutzen (piano).
The exhibition will run until 25 March, Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM and on Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM

André Rieu Lends Out His Violin

André Rieu Lends Out His Violin
L1 News: On March 18, André Rieu lends out his own 17th-century violin to Gil Sharon ... Gil Sharon is the artistic director of the Amati Ensemble, which on that day will perform its annual TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair) Amati Concert in the Theatre on the Vrijthof in Maastricht.
This will be the first time the Stradivari from 1667 is being lent out by Rieu. André is doing this because the Amati Ensemble is twenty years old this year and the TEFAF is celebrating its 25th edition. (TEAF is The Worlds Leading Art and Antique Fair)
In collaboration with André Rieu Productions and the Stradivari Foundation of Cremona Italy, 9 rare instruments from the renowned 16th and 17th century violin makers Stradivari and Amati are being brought to Maastricht. Gil Sharon, artistic director of the Amati Ensemble is honored on this occasion since he is allowed to play the very rare 1667 Stradivari owned by André Rieu.
The concert theme "Stradivari and Amati - Student and Teacher" refers to the craftsmanship of both famous violin makers.

The André Rieu Victorian Friendship Group

The André Rieu Victorian Friendship Group got together this past week. Val sent me a picture of their Group and a letter telling a little of what they did and who was there. Looking at all the happy faces and reading about it, just reminded me ... again ... how many friends have been made all around the world through André and his music. I thought I would post the picture here on the Parlor with a little of what Val wrote when she sent it ...
Once again, it is with much joy I thank you all for attending yesterday at the Knox Tavern for the monthly get- together of André Rieu's Victorian Friendship Group.
It was a special day yesterday, as we welcomed Margaret Sansom (Mother Superior) from Newcastle, N.S.W. For Margaret to come to Melbourne to spend time with our Group is fantastic, to come with recorded memories of André's visit to Melbourne last May was even better. We can't thank you enough Margaret.
We also welcomed a new "André" friend to our group - Shirley Morris, dare I say "recruited" from the last CinemaLive presentation at The Cameo Theater, Belgrave! It was great to meet you Shirley, I hope you enjoyed your day with us and we look forward to seeing you again.
Special thanks also, to Maria & Hendrik Matson for their wonderful presentation on Disc, of the "André Rieu Concert - Vrijthof Maastricht - 16th July 2011." Wonderful memories for those who attended Maastricht, and for the rest of us, who witnessed it "live" at The Cameo Theater and other parts of Australia. Gloria Spinks provided a special poster from Queensland of André, which was presented to Maria & Hendrik.
Attendance at the Tavern was fantastic and included, Helen & Richard Gray, Val & Graham Thompson, Maria & Hendrik Matser, Berys McEvoy, Dale Quinn, Margaret Heald, Willy Thomassen, Gloria Spinks, Margaret Connell, Chris Mellor, Graeme Wilson, Eileen Gowans, Margaret Sansom, Shirley Morris and Tony & I. Apologies were received from Mrs. Ed and Lois & Eric Little.
Once again, thanks to you all for your support and friendship. We have created a wonderful Group of Friends, with more things in common than "André"!! ........  Val

The picture of the Certificate was sent to me in the beginning of January. It was such a sweet gesture and I thank all of the Victorian Friendship Group! I have it framed on my wall over my desk ...

Interview Kerstin Cornelis, Spokesperson For André Rieu

Interview With Kerstin Cornelis, Spokesperson For André Rieu
February 23, 2012
Kerstin: Sorry to say that the concerts for this week and next week have also been postponed. People ask every time why the postponement notifications are made at the very last minute, but André of course would rather not disappoint his fans, and he would like nothing better than to be on stage. But it is important, and he is the only one who can say how he feels, and so he decided that it is still too soon.
►Interviewer: What is his reasoning for it being too soon?
Kerstin: Yes, a few weeks ago, André suffered from a severe flu, from which he did not recover as quickly as expected, and now it appears that he is suffering from "burnout". We just did the Christmas special where we started taping in August/September, and with all the preparations involved with this huge TV show, everything went well into December. His energy reserves have run down and he is now exhausted, for which the only remedy is rest, which is one thing he does not do. We hear of rumors that André is very sick in bed, but that is not the case. André goes to the baker's and butcher's, and everything is going good with him, but currently he is overtired and has to listen to his body.
►Interviewer: There was talk that he was suffering from the flu, or a viral infection again, or ear problems, is there any truth in that?
Kerstin: No, in 2010 he had a virus infection on his equilibrium and that of course is now again the rumor, but that will always remain to be a problem area, and now since he has become ill again, due to the flu or of being exhausted, this again plays a major part in his well being, and he has to be very careful with that. To be on stage is like a top sport and you have to be quite fit, and it is important that you feel good, but it is not the same as what he experienced in 2010.
►Interviewer: When do you think he will be his old self again?
Kerstin: We are planning to be on tour again on March 6th in France.

Why André Rieu Again Cancels Concerts

André Rieu Again Cancels Concerts
The Limburger Feb. 23: André Rieu would perform again tonight on stage for the first time in Stuttgart, but has again canceled his concert at the last minute. The concerts for the rest of February and early March are also canceled. Rieu will resume his tour on Tuesday March 6th in France.
"He has to listen to his body. Currently André is not feeling well enough," says Kerstin Cornelis, spokeswoman for the violinist. All seventeen canceled concerts will be moved to later this year. Cornelis did not speak about the large financial implications .
She stressed that it has nothing to do with a viral infection in his equilibrium, as it did in 2010.
Everything is going in the right directiion with Rieu, according to Cornelis. "It's not that he lies in bed all day long. He is rehearsing again and resuming his daily life. Everything at a very slow pace of course.

Maastricht at Sunset by Edwina Morgan ...

This is a photo that Edwina Morgan (Mrs. Ed) from Australia posted on her Facebook and I wanted to post it here on the Parlor so everyone could see, it's so beautiful. She took it in July 2010 while in Maastricht. Here's how she described it ... we all remember the damage that was done to the Vrijthof that night ... (click on photo to see it full size)
"It was around 9.00pm (concert time) a couple of hours after a big storm hit Maastricht, including a mini tornado, which caused a lot of damage around town! Luckily there was no concert this night, I went for a walk with my trust camera and this came right before my eyes, just so beautiful!!!" ... Edwina
Thanks Mrs. Ed for sharing this with us.

Rieu Will Return To The Stage February 23rd

RTL Boulevard-Thursday, Feb 16: Rieu will climb the stage again on February 23rd in Stuttgart, Germany. This is what his management has relayed to RTL Boulevard ... André Rieu is doing better. The Limburger has gone back again to the butcher and the baker and even rehearsed very carefully yesterday. If everything continues to go well, the maestro will resume his tour on Thursday, February 23rd in the German city of Stuttgart.
The 62-year-old violinist was confined to bed due to his illness and again had to contend with a balance disorder. In 2010 André was also out of circulation for some time due to an infection of his equilibrium. This has become his "weak spot" which can affect him anytime he becomes ill ...

Management Denies Rieu's Balance Disorder

Management Denies Rieu's Balance Disorder
Update The Limburger Friday Feb. 10: André Rieu's management denies that he is suffering from a balance disorder. The management also denies the statements which Pierre Rieu allegedly made in the newspaper "Algemeen Dagblad". This newspaper reported Friday morning that André Rieu, just like a year ago is again suffering from a balance disorder and dizziness. In this paper Pierre Rieu was quoted as saying that, on the advice of André's physician he is required to take plenty of rest and medication." Especially since André is bed ridden and the entire room is continuously spinning around him." It was also stated that Pierre had said that the Limburg King of the Waltz did not suffer exactly from the same problem as a year ago.

Pierre, according to "Algemeen Dagblad": 'The question immediately arose as to whether it was the same problem with his balance organs as in 2010. That appeared not to be true at all. André does have a viral infection, but not in his equilibrium. However, this has become a weak spot in his body. Whenever he becomes ill, that could affect him again." (Thank you to John for this)

Rieu Suffers Again From Balance Disorder
Algemeen Dagblad: Violin Virtuoso André Rieu (62) has currently not only suffered from a stubborn flu, but also a virus infection. According to his youngest son Pierre, the Viennese Waltz specialist also suffers from mysterious balance disorder and dizziness, which he had been ill for at least two months at the end of 2010. "At his doctor's advice my father has to take rest and medication. He lies mainly on the bed and the room rotates continuously in a strange way around him," said Pierre.
Although the disease symptoms for which Rieu had to cancel concerts in Germany and Denmark, are not quite the same as a year ago. Pierre said, "Immediately we thought whether it would be the same disorder in his balanceorgans as in 2010, but hat was not quiteso. André suffers from a viral infection, but not in his equilibrium organs. However, they remain a weak spot in his body. Being sick, they can arise again. For now it is not possible for André to perform on stage. Son Pierre: "We want it 100% sure that nothing goes wrong on the stage. Looking at the situation right now, there is a chance that my father will lose his balance and could falland hurt himself. That's not an option for him and his audience. At the earliest ... Rieu will start to perform Saturday next week. Cancelled concerts will be rescheduled and tickets remain valid.

Our thanks to John for his Translations!

Limburger: André Rieu Concerts

ANDRE RIEU CONCERTS CANCELED
De Limburger, Maastricht: Orchestra leader André Rieu has also canceled his concerts for the coming week. He is currently battling a powerful flu and viral infection, but should return on stage after Carnival (Mardi Gras). His performances in Bremen, Munich and Mannheim in Germany as well as Odense and Copenhagen in Denmark have been scrapped. Up until now about ten performances have been canceled. Spokesperson for Rieu, Kerstin Cornelis said, "Plenty of rest is now most important. It would be risky to be performing on stage too soon, you run the chance of receiving a triple dose in return. Making music is a top sport, that is something we do not undervalue."

Rieu also had to cancel concerts in 2010 due to illness. Due to a viral infection on his equilibrium he was forced to cancel concerts in England, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. These caused the Maastricht Orchestra leader financial difficulties. That will not happen this time, according to Cornelis. "The concerts will be rescheduled and new dates will be published. The fan tickets will remain valid."

André Rieu Still Not Recovered From Flu

André Rieu Again Cancels Concerts
He appeared to be recovering and wanted to go on stage again tomorrow, but a viral infection prevented that. The maestro had to again cancel concerts
André Rieu had to cancel his concerts in the German cities of Munich, Bremen, Mannheim and Odensee, and the Danish city of Copenhagen.
Immediately, there was talk about a previous viral infection in which André's vestibular area was affected. But according to his spokesperson, people do not have to worry since that is not the case. "Everything is going well with André, he just needs rest," according to the spokesperson for RTL Boulevard. "It is pointless to start to speculate, André just has a viral infection and it has nothing to do with his ear."
New dates for the canceled performances are being sought and published as soon as possible, which will be posted on the web site of the Limburg violinist.Tickets for the concerts remain valid.
