Mirusia Louwerse ~ Aussie Gal Made Good

Aussie Gal Made Good
MIRUSIA ‘ALWAYS AND FOREVER’

September 30, 2010 The story of Australian Mirusia Louwerse’s discovery by André Rieu is the stuff of “dreams come true”. With Dutch parents but born and raised in Brisbane, the 25 year old’s graceful stage presence and effortless soprano voice belies her age. André Rieu is besieged with demos from all and sundry. As the maestro himself puts it “I get plenty of emails every day from people telling me that their daughter sings so beautifully or their son is such a wonderful trumpet player…” and, as it happened, one such missive came from Mirusia’s aunt in December 2007. Ever diligent, André went onto Mirusia’s website and, suitably impressed with what he heard, called her.
After Mirusia initially dismissed André as a prank caller, Mirusia put down the receiver and packed her bags. She was off to audition for André the very next day. The meeting was a success. “It was unbelievable, I left Maastricht with a contract”, she says, still laughing at the shock of it.
Always & Forever, Mirusia’s first solo album, is a story in 14 songs of the musical experiences Mirusia has enjoyed on stage and in the studio with André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra. It features performances of favourites like Schubert’s Ave Maria, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Memory (Cats) and Wishing you were somehow here again (The Phantom of the Opera), as well as the breathtaking Concerto pour une voix from one-hit wonder Saint-Prieux, rediscovered by Rieu, and a tribute to her homeland Australia, by way of Botany Bay.
To see Mirusia talk about Always & Forever and for a glimpse of the some of the albums filmclips, go to www.getmusic.com.au/mirusia/videos . Mirusia sings in six different languages on Always & Forever (English, German, Latin, French, Italian, Norwegian) and has also recorded two duets with her friend, collaborator and co-soloist with André Rieu, Carmen Monarcha (Plaisir d’amour and Send in the clowns).
This isn’t the first time that Mirusia has been on a recording however, André Rieu’s album “Waltzing Matilda”, which heavily featured Mirusia, was released in 2008 and went Platinum in 10 days and spent three weeks at No.1 on the ARIA album charts, beating new albums from Madonna and Australian Idol winner Damien Leith. What’s more, it was the first time in André’s 30-year recording history that a soloist shared the cover with him.
For the past three years, the world has been Mirusia’s stage, but it wasn’t as if she hadn’t met with success in the years leading up to the audition with André Rieu. She started her vocal life in Brisbane as a country singer, then moved on to jazz, then to musicals. The sheer beauty of her singing got her a place at the Brisbane Conservatorium where her vocal studies embraced opera, and her performances led to her winning prizes at a variety of Australian competitions. Then, in 2006, she won the Dame Joan Sutherland Opera Award – the youngest ever winner of this prestigious competition, that same year going on to win many a scholarship for her outstanding recital work ... Mirusia's new CD "Always and Forever" will be released October 8, 2010

André Rieu's Son Pierre Writes of Pauw and Witteman Show Appearance

Pierre Rieu, son of violinist André Rieu, made a guest appearance on the Pauw & Witteman Show as a result of the virus infection which forced his father to cancel two tours.
*PIERRE RIEU BLOGS: "It would not have taken much more and I would not have been able to say another word. Yesterday was a particularly hectic day, not only for me but for the entire company and all the people around us. To cancel Heerenveen and Amsterdam was one thing. But to cancel two complete tours, was really something quite new to our company. Many people are nervous about what will happen, they do not know exactly what André is facing and what the future brings. I found it then very enjoyable when the directors of Pauw & Witteman asked me to appear and explain the situation. Of course I was nervous and the fact that the Dutch born speaker Bart Chabot was ahead of me, did not make the situation any easier. What a talent! I sat listening with great interest!
When they showed a compilation of videos of my father and myself I thought that as long as they do not show the images of Toronto, I'll make it. Unfortunately, the editors had done their work properly and a nerve was touched within me at the appropriate time. It would not have taken much more and I would not have been able to say another word. If it had not been for the sympathetic assistance of Jeroen Pauw and Paul Witteman and the other guests, I would not have been able to resume the conversation. So my neighbor handed me a handkerchief under the table and he whispered to me: "Just take a sip of water, that helps."
"Very nice. Bart Chabot saved the situation at the table by saying in plain old Dutch: "Andre just play!, Cancel all that shit!" André must have listened since this may be the beginning of other things to come.
I would like to thank Jeroen and Paul very much, as well as their entire team for their hospitality yesterday. Afterwards during the reception I received many positive comments. I landed in a warm place. It is touching to discover that so many people are behind us and sympathize with us."
Thank you, Pierre

André Rieu To Move Cape Town PARADE Concert Indoors

André Moved His "Parade" Concert Due To His Virus Infection

Cape Town South Africa
by Marga Ley
The open air concert of André Rieu on the PARADE in Cape Town, will no longer be held there, primarily due to the stresses it will cause him.
Rieu, a Dutchman, became ill about four weeks ago due to a virus in his equilibrium. Initially it was thought that he would shed this virus quickly, but his recovery is slower due to being overworked and his stress situation. The fate of the international DVD which would have been recorded during the performance is now in question.
The PARADE concert will now be replaced by three performances in the Grand Arena in Grand-West, which Sam Hendrikse of Hunta-Live, Rieu's spokesperson in South Africa, announced yesterday. Fans who already have bought tickets for the Parade concerts, can have their monies returned, or they may exchange their ticket for one of the indoor performances.
Ticket holders do not have to worry, they will be contacted directly on Monday according to Hendrikse.
Rieu became ill when he, for the first time in a long time, took a weeks holiday. His son, Pierre Rieu, told the Dutch newspaper "de Telegraaf" that with this rest, the infection grabbed hold of him, and that the best medication was rest, rest, rest ........ obviously something my Dad does not like.
Three concerts in the Netherlands, for which approximately 78,000 tickets were sold, have temporarily been canceled. It was hoped that Rieu would have recovered prior to his tours to England, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. His recovery was not satisfactory, and the concerts were canceled on short notice. "My doctors and I are working very hard toward my recovery" said Rieu in an interview with "de Telegraaf." "It is really not wise now for me to force myself." Meanwhile, the entire Rieu company has come to a halt as larger issues have surfaced due to the canceled tours and no monies are coming in" according to Pierre Rieu.
►Note from John: The above is a newspaper article Rianne Meier from South Africa sent Ineke. She scanned the paper and emailed it to Ineke. It is in Afrikaans and I think I can make a go out of it. John ........... SO John is now not only Translating in Dutch and German for us, he's Translating in Afrikaans! :) Thanks John!

André Rieu Wants to Make November 18th His Comeback

Violinist Walking (Strolling) With His Grandchildren

André Rieu has canceled his tours in England, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. A financial blow for the Maastricht Orchestra Leader. He wants to make November 18th his comeback.

Herbal Drinks For André Rieu ...

He receives recipes sent to him for herbal drinks. Fans give him tips to combat the virus in his equilibrium and there are indeed a great number of admirers who would like to establish an emergency fund for André Rieu since he currently can not go on tour with the Johann Strauss Orchestra.

"Cute and heartwarming", says son Pierre Rieu about the many reactions the felled violinist has received from his fans during the last month. "It is wonderful to see how they live along in compassion with André, but that emergency fund is really not necessary."
The Maastricht stand alone violinist has set his sight on November 18th. He then wants to make a comeback on stage in Antwerp. Until that time he will take an absolute necessary rest to recover from the virus that's caused him problems for at least a month.
"He walks with his grandchildren, listens to a little music and we talk much about how this could have happened, " says Pierre Rieu. "It has all been just too much. The decision to cancel the tours was extremely difficult. My father thinks especially about those (fans) who would come to the concerts. For them it is also a disappointment. "
Rieu canceled six appearances in England and Ireland and eleven in Australia and New Zealand. A financial blow for the world famous violinist. Together with the earlier cancellations of Heerenveen and Amsterdam, we are now talking about more than 200,000 sold tickets. Rieu will not receive the box office monies until the concerts have taken place. "That money stays with the ticket sellers in different countries," explains Pierre Rieu. "For certain costs we have insurance policies. The containers with the equipment for the concerts in Australia and New Zealand are already underway. Hotels have been reserved. We would be going to England for the first time. The money for the hotels and airline tickets will certainly not be reimbursed. You pay the entire costs."
According to Pierre Rieu, the company must get past this period as well as can be expected. "It's not all snug and cozy. We have to make do with what we have. But dad will be back. As he improves, he can rehearse again. And be back on stage again."

Re-Scheduled Concert Dates for André Rieu

André Rieu has published new dates for his canceled concerts in the Netherlands. The world famous violinist had to cancel concerts in Heerenveen and Amsterdam because of a persistent viral infection in his labyrinth.

The performance which was planned for September 4 in the Amsterdam Arena has been changed to Whit Monday (Pentecost Monday), June 13th. André Rieu Devastated over Cancelled Concerts

ANDRÉ RIEU DEVASTATED

AMSTERDAM - André Rieu carries a heavy burden. The emotional musician still has not recovered from the viral infection which has affected his equilibrium. "My doctors and I are working hard to restore that. They are doing all kinds of research to see if they can accelerate the recovery."
André continues ... "It's really not wise to force myself now. We are again preplanning the tours. I'll be back." In the meantime he has canceled two tours to Australia and Britain.
Son Pierre Rieu: "First thing this morning I went to our financial controller. All fixed costs will continue to be paid. We employ 120 personnel. The plane tickets have been purchased, the hotels have to be paid. It just can not be any other way."
Pierre is pulling his hair out: "Today we all sat down together with the orchestra. This has never happened before. Dad has never been sick. We do not have a handbook in our cabinet where we can see what we should do in cases like this. And you can not tell André that he should go back to work. His health takes priority over everything else. He still suffers from unexpected vertigo attacks."
His son also says that André really would love to go to work and at times really has made an effort. "We already have made some recordings for albums and rehearsed a little. But the fact remains that André's health remains questionable. Last week when he was in a poultry shop, suddenly he had to grab onto a rack or he would have fallen down. Something like that can not happen while you are on a large stage and especially with the pressure of an audience being there. The first performance would have been tomorrow in the massive O2 stadium in London. Dad phoned and said, "I really can not do it. This is so tragic."
In the meantime, Pierre is now busy working this disaster. In Britain and Ireland six shows have been canceled, and for the tours in Australia and New Zealand twelve performances need to be rescheduled. Earlier a performance in Heerenveen and two in the Amsterdam ArenA in the Netherlands had to be canceled.
Pierre says: "We are insured for the costs of construction and things of that nature. But I do not know for example how that works with airline tickets and hotels. In the Netherlands people know us and we were able to make arrangements. For next year we are going to book the same number of rooms and will then receive a big discount for the now unused nights. I think we will pay approximately 140 percent. But for England, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, I am afraid that we have to pay everything. The same goes for the airline tickets."
André's Orchestra Maintains High Hopes
Pierre says, "Everyone here is in permanent employment. We can bear the costs. But of course no one is being jubilant. Our people are also restless. We all are suffering along with André."
If he feels better, the violin virtuoso will resume his work in November in Antwerp.

André Rieu Possibly Doing Ten Concerts on The Vrijthof

Possibly TEN Concerts on The Vrijthof in 2011

MAASTRICHT - André Rieu will not conduct any Christmas concerts in the MECC in December. Rieu is thinking about expanding the number of his summer concerts on the Vrijthof from eight to ten. At the end of July, the MECC had announced that together with the conductor they were working on a program for the month of December. Rieu's spokesperson Kerstin Cornelis now says that report by the MECC was 'premature'.
According to Cornelis, there will definitely be no Rieu Christmas concerts in the MECC this year. The rumors about a series of concerts by the Maastricht Orchestra leader this winter were fueled by the copying of the Vrijthof in the MECC. That decor was built only as an alternative and possible backup to the summer concert series of Rieu's 'real' Vrijthof, in case of inclement weather. Actually the convention center was only used once when Rieu moved his concert from the evening to the afternoon on the day of the World Cup final. Due to the extreme summer heat the concert was moved to the MECC.
According to Cornelis the copied Vrijthof' and any eventual concerts during the winter are entirely independent from each other." "That was purely meant as an alternative to the Vrijthof concert during the summer. " Rieu is satisfied with the MECC as an alternate. Because of the success of that trial and the successful ticket sales of his forthcoming series of summer concerts in Maastricht, Rieu is contemplating expanding his series of summer concerts on the Vrijthof by two more concerts. That would increase the violinist's performances from eight to ten.
Apart from that, the violinist had to cancel his approaching Britain and Australia tours due to illness. Rieu has been suffering from a viral infection on his vestibular system for a while.

ANDRÉ RIEU Jubilee Book Thirty Years

Jubilee Book (DVD) André Rieu 30 Years

During the second half of August 2010, the Dutch newspaper "Algemeen Dagblad (AD)" released a book called "André Rieu, King of the Waltz". This book describes the 30 year career of André with his Salon Orchestra and later with the Johan Strauss Orchestra. Also included is a DVD with highlights of his concerts, and a 20 minute peek behind the scenes. This is never before seen material, primarily recorded during the period of the South African Road Soap. Many of you have received the book by now and are wondering what André is saying in this documentary. Watch the video below to find out ...
In this video you see the famous Dutch celebrity photographer Govert de Roos capturing images for the front cover of the CD "You Raise Me Up" and the jubilee book. Govert is also responsible for the pictures of André, Pierre and the newborn twins Lieke and Linde. (Click the link below to watch with Subtitles)
A special thanks to John for his assistance with the translation.
